Kiosk Team Braves the Heat

The past few days have seen digits hover around the 100 degree mark. How do you beat the heat at the Kiosk with no AC? Ice cream!

This time of year the Visitor Information Kiosks are open daily from 9a – 7p. Since May, the Kiosk Team has assisted over 20,500 visitors directions and information on area accommodations, attractions, events and restaurants.

Thank you to the CVB Kiosk Team for the great job the do.

CVB Exceeds Energy Reduction Goal!

City Manager, Dave Hansen, and the Joint Energy Committee set a city-wide goal to reduce the consumption of energy by 1% for FY16. The third quarter reports are in and the city as a whole has actually reduced energy usage by 1.9%, which is awesome news!

piechartenergy

Even better, however, is that our CVB team has achieved the following reductions:

Electricity Usage (kWh) – reduced 6.9%
Natural Gas (Therms) – reduced 3.0%

These numbers are fiscal YTD thru March 2016, and show the amazing effort made by our team to conserve energy while at the VICs and VBCC.

Special shout-out to VBCC Sustainability Coordinator, Kimberlee Dobbins, who said it best: “We all have an impact – make it a positive one.”

Keep up the good work, everyone!

NATIONAL TRAVEL AND TOURISM WEEK DAY 5 – Norfolk International Airport

With the Norfolk International Airport celebrating Thank a Visitor Day, CVB’ers joined in the effort with other cities in the Coastal Virginia Region, and also thanked many of those who work so hard to give our visitors a great experience upon arrival and departure. They are the first thing many of our our visitors see upon arriving and the last thing they see before returning home, and they are definitely a part of the bigger picture of tourism in Virginia Beach. #NTTW16 #picturetourism.

Thanks to Liz, Lisa, Shantese, Scott and Jane for coming out and helping to make today the awesome day that it was!!

VTC Welcome Center FAM

The Virginia Beach Hotel Association and the CVB have been collaboratively working on an agenda to host the Virginia Tourism Corporation Welcome Center Staff for a familiarization (FAM) tour in Virginia Beach May 1-3, 2016. The purpose of the visit is to educate the Welcome Center Staff about Virginia Beach. The Virginia Welcome Center staff promotes attractions, destinations, events, dining and lodging establishments statewide. FAM tours provide attendees with the extra details and personal experiences that are crucial to accurately and passionately promote Virginia Beach. Welcome Center staff speak to hundreds of thousands of DRIVE TOURISM visitors in their Welcome Centers every year, and have these visitors’ attention because they are already here and looking for things to do.

VB Welcomes BAYDA

Check out some the action of our friends at Convention Services and the Visitors Center as they assist this weeks visitors – Black Adventist Youth Directors Association (BAYDA) 2016 United World Congress Group – setting up welcome desks at the Airport and the various hotels.  The group brought 2,000 official delegates, and is anticipating approximately an additional 3,000 for the Sabbath services on this evening and Saturday.
