Virginia Beach, Va. (February 7, 2017) – This year’s National Travel and Tourism Week (May 3 – 12) will feature “Faces of Travel” and shine a spotlight on the power of travel by recognizing the millions of people nationwide who keep the hospitality industry strong. To join in this national celebration, the Virginia Beach Convention & Visitors Bureau (CVB), along with tourism industry partners, will honor the “best of the best” in the Virginia Beach hospitality industry during an awards luncheon* on Friday, May 12, at the Virginia Beach Convention Center.
Led by a workforce of nearly 13,000 dedicated individuals, Virginia Beach achieved a record $1.4 billion in tourism revenue in 2015, making the travel and tourism industry one of the city’s largest economic generators. The 2017 Travel & Tourism Awards luncheon will be a celebration of our dedicated hospitality professionals who help host the more than 13 million annual visitors who select Virginia Beach as their destination of choice.
Awards will be presented in more than 30 industry-related categories. Do you know a server who goes the extra mile with a smile? How about that valet who never fails to say “Have a nice day!” or the maintenance worker who can be counted on 24/7/365? These are the “Faces of Travel” we’re looking to honor, so log on to www.vbgov.com/NTTW today to check out the categories and nominate someone who makes a difference in the Virginia Beach tourism industry – it’s absolutely free!
Nominations are open through March 6, 2017. For more information, please contact Brande Rumpf at brumpf@visitvirginiabeach.com.
*Luncheon registration opening soon.

Pilot reporter Lee Tolliver recently covered the The Virginia Flower and Garden Expo at the VBCC in an article. The following stats were provided by Brian Miller, showing off how cool our beloved convention center building is!
· This is the 23rd year for The Virginia Flower and Garden Expo
· This year the show is covering over 75,000 sq ft of space
· The buildup of landscapes begins Sunday night and finishes by opening on Friday at 10:00am
· This year the expo is purchasing renewable energy credits to offset the carbon footprint of the show. This is equivalent to avoiding 13 tons of CO2 emissions, planting 10 acres of US Forest, or taking 3 cars off the road for one year!
· The Virginia Beach Convention Center is also a LEED certified facility by the US Green Building Council. Some of the sustainable practices include a robust recycling program, high efficiency LED lighting and composting. VBCC appreciates that the VA Flower and Garden Expo allows the VBCC to use the mulch from the show on our own grounds, rather than disposing of the mulch in the landfill. Over the years, we estimate that this action has diverted thousands of pounds of waste from our landfill.
