The MarComm unit extends appreciation to the VIC team for their help in getting industry contacts updated and entered into the Simpleview CRM system. Under the patient direction of our rising star, Industry Relations Coordinator Curtis Weaver, the VIC team has made dozens of calls and helped get almost 100 new contacts into the system in a little less than three weeks! - Where were you born and where is your hometown? I was born and raised in Virginia Beach
- What division and position do you work for? I work for Distinctive Gourmet at the VBCC
- How many years have you worked for the CVB? I have worked for DG for about a year and a half.
- What is the best vacation you’ve been on? I went on a week-long Caribbean cruise to the Bahamas, Grand Cayman Islands, and Jamaica. I got to swim with dolphins!!
- What is your favorite thing to do in the wonderful City of Virginia Beach? Taking my dog, Whyatt, to First Landing State Park.
- What is your favorite quote? It does not matter how slowly you go, as long as you do not stop.
- Do you have an office nickname? If so what is it? Crazy Dog Lady
- Tell us something about yourself that would surprise us: People are always surprised to know I go hunting with my boyfriend. I’ve even helped him skin a deer. (eek!)
- What do you like to do for fun? I like to run races and cook. I also like to go on hikes. I am a part of a hiking group called Her Hike Collective, where a group of girls meet up a couple of times a year to hike at new spots in Virginia.
- What is one thing you cannot resist? White wine, cheese, and dogs.
- What is on your bucket list? Go on the wine train through Napa Valley
- What is your hidden talent? I am the best at organizing, it’s what I do! My friends also tell me I am a great gift-giver. Apparently, I have a “great sense of what people need or care about”.

We wanted to share some good news with you this morning. We were made aware from the VTC team that the Virginia Beach oceanfront will be the cover image for the 2019 Virginia travel guide! Please see attached for a mockup of the cover that will run soon.
MarComm producing FY19 Winter Campaign
We wanted to share a few photos from our Marketing team as we’ve been in the field producing our FY19 Winter Campaign creative this week. Our leisure winter campaign will highlight unique experiences in Virginia Beach for visitors to enjoy on a spontaneous weekend getaway or longer visit as a remedy in curing the winter blues. The TV spots will run on traditional broadcast/ cable and also digitally through streaming video and connected TV. The photo assets captured during this shoot will be used in digital ad creative and content developed in support of the campaign. Production is set to wrap next Thursday.
Virginia Beach Festival Recognized by Southeast Tourism Society
The city’s August 2017 FunkFest Beach Party has been named one of the Top 20 Events in the Southeast by the Southeast Tourism Society (STS). STS is a professional association dedicated to promoting festivals and events in support of travel and tourism. First held in August of 2006, the Virginia Beach FunkFest Beach Party is a free, weekend-long festival featuring free concerts, food vendors, and arts and crafts on the beach, boardwalk, and park at 24th Street, and is widely-known as one of the largest Afro-centric beach parties in the United States. The FunkFest Beach Party in one of more than 20 major festivals and events produced for residents and visitors by IMGoing Events in partnership with the Convention & Visitors Bureau.
Tower Lights
With a new coat of paint and new lighting, VBCC’s tower has a bright new look. REW Electric completed the installation of new Lumenpulse programmable LED lights this month. The color changing lights can provide a variety of static colors or preprogrammed moving light themes. Seen here is the Thanksgiving theme. Look up when you’re leaving work, unless you are like some of the VBCC team who arrive early. We’re now in the Christmas mode.

Virginia Beach CVB Selected for Readers’ Choice Award
SportsEvents Media Group, a leading industry publication focused exclusively on assisting sports event planners produce exceptional youth and amateur sports competitions in the United States, recently recognized the Virginia Beach CVB as a 2019 Readers’ Choice Award winner. Sports event professionals nominated destinations and sports venues that they believe displayed model creativity and professionalism toward the groups they host. Nominations were received beginning in early September and the top picks were selected based on results from an online voting system which concluded in early November. Now in its eleventh year, the awards drew a record number of votes this year. Winners will be honored in the January 2019 issue of SportsEvents magazine. Congratulations to the CVB team!
