New Ballroom Dedication Sign

The ballroom dedication sign and plaque were finally completed last week. It took quite a bit longer than I ever would have anticipated, but I’ve grown to learn that about many things at VBCC. There isn’t another building like ours and recreating many of the custom elements take time.

Bringing Your Sport To Life

It must finally be spring outside because Team VBCC is bringing US Finals to life! Late Tuesday afternoon Justin, Tobias, Kendita, Toddell, and Terence were all found setting chairs and closing walls. Meanwhile, Lisa was getting the front of house ready preparing ticket boxes. Adrielle slipped away from her desk for a few minutes but there was tell-tale evidence of her last-minute work. Let’s hope the sun remains out for the street party!

Tallwood High Site Visit

Students from the Tallwood Global Studies & World Languages Academy stopped by the Virginia Beach Convention Center on Thursday.  They took a tour, learned about convention center operations and the careers available in the hospitality industry. They were able to tour the facility and see the Collie Club National Specialty Show in action.

What do you do when you find a piece of broken glass at VBCC?

You hire a glazing contractor, round up a crane, a man lift and 8 strong professional glazers, and get to work. And then, write a big check.  VBCC was fortunate that Walker & Laberge, the original contractor, had two pieces of this custom curved glass left over from our job in 2005. Work was completed March 15.

Foundations for New Supervisors Graduates

Maria Aragon, Acting Manager of the Visitor Information Center, and Robin Moore-Hall, Operations Supervisor at the Virginia Beach Convention Center both graduated from the week-long Foundations for New Supervisors course on February 16, 2018.

VBCC Activity This Weekend

Just another routine weekend at the Virginia Beach Convention Center.  This week we’ve been loading in over 200 boats, over 40 spas, assorted patio furniture, two airplanes, a vintage Jaguar and an antique army jeep.
