VBCC Wins CoVB Energy Champion Award

The Virginia Beach Convention Center staff were nominated and won 3rd place in the 1st ever City of Virginia Beach Energy Awards.  Our diligent and mindful staff of City employees and contractors worked together to save electricity and inspire a culture of environmental awareness.  With the benefit of new LED lighting and the automated demand response program, VBCC lowered the power supply peak demand by 15%, from 2,196 kilowatts to 1,863 kilowatts, saving $20,870 in electricity costs (Sept. 2016 – August 2017 vs the same year prior).  While the entire staff could not attend the event, the following staff members were present to accept the award from Mayor Will Sessoms (see attached photo):  left to right — Mayor Will Sessoms, Larry Mitchell, Les Tolson, Jim Shampoe, Kimberlee Dobbins, and Courtney Dyer.
