Virginia Beach Mayor Dyer speaks at the annual Norwegian Lady Ceremony produced by the Sons of Norway Hampton Roads Lodge 3-522 Norwegian Lady Plaza Foundation, Ladies Auxiliary of the Virginia Beach fire Department, Virginia Beach Surf and Rescue Museum, and Norwegian NATO & Military Service Members. Every year since 1962, a memorial service takes place at the Norwegian Lady in Virginia Beach, and flowers are placed by the statue and a ceremonial wreath taken out to sea by Virginia Beach Fire Department swimmers.
