VB Sports Set for a Busy Weekend

Hi CVBers –

This is a crazy busy weekend for our VB Sports Team. With three events happening simultaneously at multiple venues throughout the City, the VB Sports Team will be playing offense and defense to ensure that all the visiting athletes, coaches, fans and visitors have a great experience. If you are out and enjoying the sunshine, you may want to check out some of the action. 6,500 participants that can dribble, pass, shoot and score!

Brad Van Dommelen Selected as Next Director of the CVB

After a nationwide search, Brad Van Dommelen, current president of the Traverse City CVB in Michigan, has been selected as our next director at the CVB. He has been president of the Traverse City (MI) Convention & Visitors Bureau (Traverse City Tourism) since 2005 and before that, was senior vice president of strategic business development at the Detroit Metro Convention and Visitors Bureau. Under his leadership, the Traverse City Tourism organization received the “Best CVB in Michigan” award by the readers of Michigan Meetings & Events magazine an unprecedented six out of the last seven years.

Virginia Beach Featured in Budget Travel!

The editors at Budget Travel have chosen us as “A Beach Town Escape You’ll Love” in this great online feature, published at the end of last week. Budget Travel is working to reposition itself as a go-to source for affordable and accessible travel, attempting to highlight unexpected places to explore – fighting the misconception that they cover “cheap travel.”

Budget Travel receives 529,239 monthly unique visitors and has a combined social media following of 348,000!

A Morning in Their Shoes

With the Visitor Center team in a group training yesterday morning, several members of the CVB staff jumped at the opportunity to help cover their posts and learn a little bit about what some of our colleagues do on a day-to-day basis.

Tasks included:

  • Answering the phones
  • Selling She-crab Festival tickets and Aquarium tickets
  • Kept a tick sheet of the number of visitors coming in and the number of phone calls
  • Signed for delivery packages
  • Assisted walk-ins
  • Checked the fax machine for faxes from the hotelier providing the number of rooms they had available
  • Logged the number of rooms each hotel that called or faxed in with the prices

Teamwork makes the dream work, and we couldn’t ask for a better team than the one we have here at the CVB!
