City Manager’s Perspective –

  1. 2018 will be a politically charged year
  2. 8 of 11 seats open
  3. City Employees
  4. Remember to keep political opinions and/or political predictions to yourself while in your City Role or while acting in official capacity of your position
  5. Please provide information through the appropriate channels as requested by political  candidates

iii.      City Manager will directly address any concerns regarding the overall performance of City Employees should topic arise in the during campaigns.

  1. City Manager stated that City Staff are intelligent, diligent and as effective as any Fortune 500 Company.

Virginia Beach Represented at Chamber Leadership Program Graduation

LEAD Hampton Roads, a program of the Hampton Roads Chamber, recently hosted “BRAVO!”, its annual gala celebration of the region and its leadership. Close to 400 business and community leaders gathered at the Norfolk Waterside Marriott for a reception and dinner honoring visionary leaders and celebrating LEAD’s 30th year of serving the region.

 

The evening culminated with the graduation of 48 business leaders who successfully completed the nine-month Signature leadership program. Court Appointed Special Advocate Administrator Season Roberts, Virginia Beach Police Captain Rio Hatfield and Convention & Visitors Bureau Public Relations Specialist Teresa Diaz were among this year’s graduates.

 

During the program, the First Citizen of Hampton Roads Award was presented to the Honorable Ralph S. Northam, Governor of the Commonwealth of Virginia, for his exemplary leadership. The Julian Hirst Alumni Leadership Award was presented to Jennifer Boykin, Executive Vice President of Huntington Ingalls Industries, and President of Newport News Shipbuilding. The ICON Young Professional Leadership Award was presented to Jay Jones, Delegate 89th District Virginia House of Delegates.

Congratulations are extended to all.

Interns Take On Chesapeake Bay Center inside First Landing State Park

Maria Aragon took our 2018 interns from the Visitor Center, Convention & Visitors Bureau and Convention Center on a site visit of all the locations of the Visitor Center. The last stop was at the Chesapeake Bay Center inside First Landing State Park.   Peggy Breslin showed them around and our interns experienced some hands-on activity at new Bay Lab.

ILEA Hampton Roads Icon Award:  

  • Jane was selected because she has continued to support the ILEA Organization at various levels and has been in the organization the longest amongst our chapter (21 years).
  • Jane’s involvement has included;

  • Regional Vice President – International Live Events Association ILEA – Northeast Region2004-2005

CVB Sales Mission DC – Humane Rescue Alliance

Jordan Vallerga with the Founders Inn & Spa and Scott Warren with the CVB Convention Sales volunteered with the Professional Convention Management Association (PCMA) Capital Chapter to make dog toys for the Humane Rescue Alliance In the Washington DC area on Monday (6/18).

With 28 volunteers, 146 donated t-shirts (used to make dog toys) and over $1,200 in cash donations, the group was able to adopt 4 cats, 4 dogs and make over 30 dog toys.
