RCMA Pics

This photo is from the Religious Conference Management Association (RCMA) – 2019 Emerge Conference (Jan. 29-31), “Where Faith Meets”. This year’s event was hosted in Greensboro, NC. Almost 250 meeting planners in the Religious Market attended for one-to-one appointments with over 250 meeting venues, hospitality services and products represented.

Pictured are partners from Coastal Virginia and longtime meeting planner Ken Lupp. Also included are pics of the give back program, Out of the Garden Project. Their mission is to provide tangible signs of love so that no child goes to bed hungry. They  provide more than 125 bags of food each weekend to students and families at nearly 60 elementary, middle and high schools in the Piedmont Triad of North Carolina, and also have 22 fresh mobile markets each month that they take out to areas of Guilford County to distribute food to those in need.

Va Beach Represented at ORF

The next time you’re at Norfolk International Airport be sure to check out the video wall behind the new Concierge Desk. CVBs from across the region were invited to submit a :15 clip of their destination to create a continuously looping video to play during business hours. The VBCVB submitted a clip from our shoulder season winter video and will share new clips as the seasons change and new video is rolled out. In addition to inclusion in the video, Virginia Beach is represented in print within the exterior racks of the desk as well. Currently displayed and available for guest consumption are Virginia Beach Look Books, attraction and accommodations brochures and the 2019 Virginia Travel Guide which features a great shot of the boardwalk on the cover. All this placement is at no charge and is tremendous exposure for the destination. According to the FAA, Norfolk International Airport’s passenger activity is ranked in the top 15% of commercial service airports in the United States with over 3.6 million scheduled passengers served in 2018.

Wintern Blog

As a hospitality management major with a passion for travel and tourism, I knew I would love an internship in event services at the CVBB. I had no idea what to expect, but was prepared to learn. The event coordinators immediately made me feel like part of the team and Avery Burgess, the Director of Events, has become a great mentor to me. I can’t even express how much she has boosted my confidence as I transition from student to future professional. I truly feel that she wants me to succeed, and believes that I can. I’ve been exposed to so much in such a short time and have learned a lot about myself along the way. The most unexpected corollary is my personal leaning towards business and finance, something I didn’t expect as I’ve always considered myself more right-brained than left. It has been incredible seeing real-life applications of various business processes, financial accounting and information systems.

I’ve observed how communication and culture can play a substantial role in workplace dynamic. I have learned so much about all that goes into events, how there are so many working parts and how important teamwork and communication really is. I was impressed by the enormous kitchen and talented catering team at Distinctive Gourmet, and truly blown away by how delicious the food is. I was lucky enough to try many dishes and never went home hungry. Through meetings with department heads in operations, sales and service and business operations, I’ve learned about technical processes, city and government procedures and many, many management styles. The effort that goes into sustainability and energy-efficiency to maintain the building’s LEED certification is inspiring.

I am eternally grateful for this experience. I’ve had many networking and team-building opportunities, met tons of awesome people and participated in exciting meetings and events. Although I am not sure what my future holds, I’m positive I’ll be seeing the VBCC staff again.

Virginia Beach Boardwalk Featured On Cover Of 2019 Virginia Travel Guide

As the state’s “Virginia Is For Lovers” campaign celebrates its 50th year, the Virginia Beach CVB is especially proud to share that a beautiful shot of our famous boardwalk was one of four photos selected to grace the cover of the 2019 Virginia Vacation Guide. According to the state tourism office, destinations which are chosen best represent Virginia’s wide array of travel products. Each year a mountain location, a coastal destination and one other relevant attraction/destination are selected. This year’s locations correlate with feature stories within the Guide, part of the content strategy to feature informative stories about Virginia travel experiences that interest travelers. The Virginia Beach cover is representative of the Guide’s feature story “Fun on the Water: Best Beaches in the State.” The other covers this year feature Dody Ridge, Montvale (outside of Roanoke) and Monticello. This summer, a special edition cover will feature “50 Years of Love – celebrating 50 years since the inception of the iconic ‘Virginia is for Lovers’ brand.” There will soon be 275,000 of the guides in circulation, distributed through the 13 Virginia Welcome Centers, AAA offices, local/regional Visitor Centers and a variety of bulk requests.
