More Air Travel Visitors Expected Following Announcement of New Non-stop Service by Allegiant Airlines

The CVB is working closely with  Allegiant Airlines to collaborate on marketing initiatives to raise awareness of new, direct in-bound flights from key target markets of Cincinnati and Cleveland for Summer 2019.

Earlier this week Allegiant Airlines announced twice-weekly service to Cincinnati/Northern Kentucky International Airport and Cleveland Hopkins International Airport from Norfolk International beginning June 7. Allegiant said the new routes will bring an anticipated 4,000 passengers to Hampton Roads and the Outer Banks annually. The distance between destinations is a significant factor in choosing to enter a market; Cincinnati is about a 600-mile drive to Virginia Beach  — a distance that is a tipping point at which many people would rather fly. Allegiant began flying from Norfolk in October 2017.

Hospitality for the Holidays

The hotel and restaurant associations, along with the VB Convention and Visitors Bureau, were honored to give back to the workforce that continually gives to others. The Hospitality for the Holidays campaign once again provided gift cards to 43 deserving individuals who were nominated for some extra cheer this season. The generosity of attendees at the annual Hospitality Party held on December 5, 2018, along with donations from the VBHA Board, ensured each nominee received a minimum of $100 in gift cards. THANK YOU to all those who nominated an individual and for those who provided a gift.

Sherri Waghalter and Darcy Potter show with Vice Mayor Louis Jones, VBCC Manager Courtney Dyer and City Manager Dave Hanson receiving 30-year service awards. Darcy received her retirement pin a few days earlier. The Annual Service Awards recognizes City staff who have been with the City a minimum of 25 years at five-year increments. They received a plaque and a gift catalog from which they can order a really cool gift. Congratulations to both!
